Gateway Programme

The Gateway programme was established at Reporoa College in 2005 and is designated to strengthen the pathway for senior students from school to the workplace.  The programme integrates general education with workplace learning and assessment giving students the opportunity to gain credits towards their National Qualifications.

Over the previous year the successful Gateway applicants chose a diverse range of professions to explore. Many have resulted in weekend and holiday employment and at the end of the year one of our students accepted and apprenticeship with an engineering firm in Rotorua after completing the programme with them.

Some of our participating employers have included, Pattersons Motorcycles, Gould Photographics, Taupo Automarine, Rotorua Vet Centre, Reporoa Kindergarten, Radio Network, Fashion & Faces International, BlackmanSpargo Law and many more.

The Gateway programme is a fantastic asset to Reporoa College with many positive outcomes:

  • Students gain confidence and enhanced communication skills through learning in an adult environment.
  • Students are given accreditation for work completed in the workplace.
  • Students are encouraged to set higher career and life goals.
  • Relationships and a work history are established between students and prospective employers.
  • Employers have access to a pool of highly trained workers from which they can recruit new employees.
  • Employers have the opportunity to contribute to the future skills base of their industry.
