Music at Reporoa College
The music suite at Reporoa College was opened in 2005. It is a modern facility comprising of a classroom, office, four rehearsal /recording rooms and a well equipped band rehearsal/teaching room.
Music is taught as a core subject at years 7, 8 and 9 and as an option in year 10. We have a growing number of students choosing to study music for NCEA Levels One, Two and Three.
Matua Grant Hohepa is our resident guitar and band tutor. There are currently 90 students taking the opportunity to learn guitar at school.
In 2007, three school bands were entered in the Smokefree Rockquest and one band in the Smokefree Pacifica beats. All four bands were coached by Matua Grant Hohepa. We also have tutors visiting the school on a weekly basis allowing us to offer tuition in keyboard, singing, saxophone, trumpet, trombone, flute, clarinet, violin and cello.
******Current Success***** - Congratulations to Joanna Gillespie and the Pacifica Beats Band, "Endless Jam" for winning the best lyrics award at the Pacifica Beats regional final in Hamilton recently. The song will go forward for consideration for the National Pacifica Beats best lyric award.
