Netball at Reporoa College

Our Senior A Girls Netball Team were in Auckland last week competing in the National Tournament held annually.  It was an amazing week with the girls playing some of the most exciting netball I have seen.

We started off on Monday with a draw against Aquinas College from Tauranga and from there we won our next 7 games and the pool.  We then advanced to the cross-overs and Top 8.

The senior girls in the team led by example all week and the new girls to the team did an awesome job.  Chynead Boynton, Sarah Tawa, Renique Tenhagen, Rachel Leinhardt and Julia Robinson displayed some of their best netball of their time in the Senior A team.  Sarah Ratlidge, Catherine McKnight and Sjaan Cane did a tremendous job for their first year in the A's and our younger players Taylor Ratlidge and Krystal Kahura will be players to watch in the future.

On Thursday the girls then played their first cross-over game against St Dominics and had a very good win by 4 points.  In the afternoon we then played for a spot in the top 4.  In a game that seesawed the whole way through we managed to come out on top and earn a place in the semi finals.

Friday morning saw us play Afriston College in another exciting battle of netball and go down in the last quarter to the team that eventually won the finals.  That afternoon we played off for 3rd and 4th and finished a very credible 4th place.  All divisions have 32 teams and for us to finish 4th was a fantastic achievement and I am very proud of all of the girls.

Chynead Boynton has been in the Senior A team since Year 10 and this her last year at the College.  This was one of her most outstanding tournaments in netball and her ability to play and lead from the front at GA/c earned her the Most Outstanding Player of the TournamentRenique Tenhagen at GD and Catherine McKnight at WA were most omproved players and Rachel Leinhardt shot fantastically all week and was another whom had a very good tournament.  Sarah Tawa at C and Julia Robinson at WD/GD in the mid court worked tirelessly.  Sjaan Cane played at GK all week and just never stopped trying and I must insist never stopped trying!  Sarah Ratlidge atWD showed some very good form throughout the week and Taylor Ratlidge WD and Krystal Kahura GA did a splendid job and made great use of their court time.

I would like to thank all of the staff, parents and community from Reporoa who phoned to congratulate and wish us all good luck during the week it was great for the girls.  Thank you also to the rugby coach Steve Axtens, the girls thought it was just awesome that you rang Steve.  I would also like to take this opportunity to say A BIG THANK YOU to our incredible parents to whom without your help it would not have been that easy and enjoyable.  Manager Raewyn Ratlidge, Primary Care Aunty Honey, and Parental support/help Alex and Sheryl Leinhardt and June Moles.

Final Results: 8 wins, 1 draw and 2 losses to finish 4th.
