Orientation for International Students

All new International Students will be supported in the following ways:

  1. Administration - English language placement tests, check that all necessary forms are completed, choosing subjects and purchasing uniforms.
  2. Introduction to the College - tour of the school with map, introduction to key people, visits to key places in school, required levels of behaviour, support services and phasing in process where students follow the timetable.
  3. Introduction to Rotorua and Taupo - Map of towns and surrounding area, visit to the town centres showing banks and basic banking procedures, including opening and account, introduction to Maori culture to give a basic understanding of the importance of Tikanga Maori to Rotorua and the College. Advise on transport available and sporting and recreational activities and use of brochures and pamphlets from Rotorua and Taupo Tourist Office.
  4. Homestay - Explanation of Homestay guidance sheets, New Zealand customs, what a Student can expect of the Homestays, what the Homestay can expect of the Student and how to resolve problems.
  5. Keeping Safe & Healthy - Road safety for pedestrians and cyclists, introduction to medical services in and out of school, safety routines and procedures in school and around town, what to do in an emergency, out of hours contact numbers and routines, financial health -  money management.
